Afif's goals, who was chosen as the best player and won the tournament's top scorer title, came in the 22nd, 73rd and 90th + 5th minutes from three penalty kicks, while Yazan Al-Naimat (68th) scored Jordan's goal. Qatar won the UAE edition title in 2019 for the first time in its history, by defeating Japan 3-1 as well. It maintained its record undefeated in 14 consecutive matches (13 wins and one draw in which the result was decided by penalty kicks).

Qatar became the fifth country to succeed in retaining its title after South Korea (1956, 1960), Iran (1968, 1972, 1976), Saudi Arabia (1984, 1988) and Japan (2000, 2004). It lost to Jordan 1-2 in a friendly match, a few days before the start of the tournament. By winning the title, Al-Annabi also compensated for the dull image it showed in the 2022 World Cup, when it lost its three matches in the group stage, achieving the worst result for a host country.

Qatar midfielder Abdulaziz Hatem expressed his teammates’ confidence before the match. “This is my second title and I cannot describe our feeling. I had no doubt that we would win. We had tried and won the final before, and we knew how to manage the match.”

He continued, “Our officials were not able to be with us in the Emirates (in 2019), and today they shared this achievement with us. On the other hand, and despite the loss, the “Nashama” played a wonderful tournament and gained respect through their remarkable victory over strong South Korea 2-0 in the semi-finals, which bodes well. A better future for Jordanian football in the future.
